Kettlo episode 1: a 5.75-second AI cartoon about waiting for toast

Disclosure: Kettlo is a fictional original character. The animation, the character narration (a stock synthetic voice, not lip-synced) and the sound effects are AI-generated or synthesized by us and edited with ffmpeg. No sponsor, no affiliate link in this post.

Kettlo, episode 1: waiting for toast

Kettlo is half kettle, half baby penguin. He has one task: wait for the toast. His boil level has other plans. This is the 5.75-second cut we published on Instagram on October 10, 2026.

What is in the file

  • Length: 5.75 seconds, vertical 9:16.
  • Two real motion ranges from our own Higgsfield shots, played at original speed, then one straight 1.17-second final-reaction hold that we count as still.
  • Our own measurement of motion: a model reviewing the export at 4 frames per second counted about 4.6 of the 5.75 seconds (about 80%) as moving. That is a sampled model observation, not a frame-by-frame or human count.
  • Narration: the character's four lines, all kept, with small sound effects.

Why a shorter cut

An earlier 15-second version stretched a short motion over a still tail. We cut it back to the parts that actually move instead of padding it. The longer making-of notes are in our AI-video making-of series and in the Tumblr write-up: We measured three distinct shots in a 15-second AI short.

How we checked it before posting

Two checks matter for a clip this short. First, whether the motion is real: the export was built only from two actual animated ranges plus one still reaction beat that we label as still, not from a zoomed photo. Second, whether the sound belongs to the picture: the four narration lines were kept whole and no two of them overlap. A model watched the exact export with sound, and a separate rights and content review passed; neither of those is a human audience test.

Limits

This is a note about one file on one account. It says nothing about views, audience or earnings. AI quality imperfections may be visible.

A separate longer edit

Update — October 11, 2026: A revised 15.125-second cut is now published on our Threads account. It includes an additional animated action segment and is a different export from the 5.75-second Instagram Reel embedded above. Both edits show fictional AI animation with synthetic voice, not a real product demonstration.
